RC Revolution Car - A Madcap Take on Radio Control Car Racing
RC Revolution Car is a madcap take on radio control car racing, with cartoonish environments and extensive player-created tracks. Developer Phren Games has crafted an old-school arcade-style game with multiplayer mayhem, extensive car customization and a rewarding progression system.
Unlike hobby-grade models, toy cars are powered by weak motors and run on alkaline or NiCad batteries, with top speeds of 3-7 mph (4.8-11.3 km/h). A large industry produces upgrade parts or 'hop-ups' that range from extending the life of stock plastic parts to boosting performance; the latter have become a major focus for many RC enthusiasts.
The earliest RC racers were nitro-powered with glow plug engines, small internal combustion units that use a combination of methanol and castor oil to create fire and thrust. Today, the vast majority of RC cars are electric powered with brushed motors and rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for silent, clean operation that never runs out of power.
A large part of the RC revolution was driven by the introduction of the RC100 1/8 scale gas on-road car and the RC12E and RC10 off-road electric racing buggy from Associated Electrics in 1984. These cars featured adjustable ball differentials that allowed for a nearly infinite number of tuning options to match the track and weather conditions.
